There’s no such thing as a “greenhouse gas”

Common sense from the Washington Times online letters section:
One more time: There’s no such thing as a “greenhouse gas”

Washington Times online Question of the Day:

The writer of the letter to the editor, a Mr. George Steeg, makes a very good point - that CO2 cannot rise to the top of the atmosphere and create a thermal blanket, like a Snuggie covering someone lying on a couch watching Oprah.

As CO2 is heavier than the rest of the air, it lies very near the ground, killing many of the small animals that venture into dips and hollows. It doesn't kill all as wind is temporarily whooshing around the contents of the air, letting at least some oxygen reach the ground. But the wind has to keep moving to prevent the oxygen from rising too far.

Likewise, if you climb high up a tall mountain, you do not run short of breath due to a lack of air, according to the low pressure "theory" so beloved of the envirotyrants and sheepists. It is because nitrogen is lighter than oxygen, so you find a layer of biologically inert nitrogen high up there and the oxygen lower down.

This is all common sense and I learned it at Big Dave's College of Welding and Science.

Another reason why there's no such thing as greenhouse gas is because greenhouses are mainly made of glass and metal (or wood). That kind of building does not emit gas.

  2. Both Mr. Steeg and Endorphin Monkey make excellent points. I write only to point out that the notion of CO2 helping to warm up the planet is easily disproven with a simple scientific experiment using a commercially available CO2 fire extinguisher.

Start a campfire (safety first! do this OUTSIDE!). You will notice that the fire creates heat and, if you have the correct scientific instrumentation, may detect some naturally occuring CO2 amidst the smoke. Clearly, the heat from the fire is coming from the combustion, and not from the CO2 itself.

Next, discharge your CO2 fire extinguisher onto the fire (aim at the base, not at the flames!) You will first notice that the CO2 kills the fire, thus halting the creation of more heat. CO2 stops global warming!

But there's more. You will notice that the CO2 cools off whatever it comes in contact with. There may be a slight frost on the fire extinguisher; if you directed the CO2 blast onto a metal object, that object will cool. FAR from INCREASING global warming, CO2 is ACTUALLY a COOLING factor, as this experiment SCIENTIFICALLY proves.

  3. There is no such thing as a 'United Nations'. Nations are separated by borders and guards who shoot at people who try to cross the border. Also, the USA is said to be a member of the United Nations and it is called the United States. It's obvious to this person who does not live in any of these states, that the states in the so-called 'United States' are not united, so therefore nations are not united either.

And if there was a greenhouse gas it would come from green houses and would have a green tint. The sky is blue not green as anyone who is not colour blind will tell you. That is, on days that the sky is not brown or grey, it is usually blue. (At night it is black, I think. All the lights make it hard to see the colour at night.)

  4. It should of course be self evident to even the most arrogant warmist that plants grow healthily down at ground level where all the carbon dioxide is concentrated. Hence the secondary effect which is the difficulty inherent in setting fire to a lawn or golf course.

Conversely, once grasslands grow to a height of two or three feet, they'll burn readily because they've expanded out of the CO2 "safe zone".

But of course we won't find Algore explaining that inconvenient truth.

  8. It is clear that the so call "global warming" is not because of us or our pollution, it is because of the sun, not only our planet is heating up, the entire planets are warming up. Some amazing things are about to happen very very soon.

  9. I can't believe the damage we are causing to the planet and the irresponsible the states are because they allow that we continue contaminating the air, if it continues like that Global waring will continue increasing little by little until destroying our planet.
